Planning and Zoning Department and Personnel

The Planning and Zoning Department is led by the Branford Town Planner. Department efforts involve all aspects of local land-use regulation.

Department members' responsibilities extend from advising individual residents on zoning-related matters to consulting with regional, state, and federal agencies. Among other ongoing projects, members' work includes —

  • periodic updates to the Town Comprehensive Plan of Conservation and Development
  • creation and maintenance of town-wide GIS zoning maps
  • preparing staff reports to the Planning and Zoning Commission
  • enforcing compliance with local zoning regulations
  • recommending revisions to local regulations as desirable
  • maintaining public records of applications and Commission rulings
  • overseeing state and federally sponsored programs at the local level
  • cooperating and consulting with local, regional, and state ad hoc land-use committees
  • providing timely informational updates to the public
