“Quick” site architecture and empowerment

This site was designed in 1999 and redesigned in 2006 to work hard, work fast, and be highly legible to every visitor regardless of disability. Consequently, it has a relatively spare design and uses very few images.

The site incorporates “quick” architecture. “Quick” gives site owners the power to revise their online pages easily and without the extra costs traditionally associated with third-party updates. It enables the Planning and Zoning Department and the Zoning Board of Appeals to post time-sensitive information online within minutes, eight hours a day, five days a week.

Accuracy and Liability

We have endeavored to reproduce all documents as accurately as possible. In the event of any discrepency, records held in hard copy by the Branford Department of Planning and Zoning or the Branford Zoning Board of Appeals take precedence over information presented on this site. We have no authority over and, therefore, no responsibility for information contained on web sites that link to or from this site.

The Planning and Zoning Department does not have authority over Short Beach and Pine Orchard zoning districts. Regulations pertaining to those districts do not appear on this web site.

This site is not intended to offer a complete presentation of work carried out by the Planning and Zoning Department. Residents and other interested parties are urged to call or visit the department for more detail on any planning or zoning topic.

Privacy Policy

Communications between any party and the Town of Branford may be subject to public disclosure under provisions of the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut.

The PZ web site is hosted free of charge in a subdirectory of saltmeadow.com, owned and operated by Saltmeadow Editorial and Design, LLC (hereinafter referred to as "Saltmeadow"), a website-design and web-services company headquartered in Stratford, Connecticut. Below is Saltmeadow’s privacy policy.

Saltmeadow sites are hosted on domestic servers.

Saltmeadow will not knowingly share with any third party the information transmitted by visitors to Saltmeadow, except by permission of said visitors or if required to do so under law.

All information submitted via secure form on a Saltmeadow-owned site is encrypted door-to-door. It is never transmitted in plain text and is kept secure during its useful life. When outdated, it is erased from digital memory using Gutmann or U.S. Department of Defense algorithms, and any paper copies are shredded before disposal.

Saltmeadow compiles the following visitor-related information for internal use:

  1. The Internet Provider numbers used by visitors. These IPs are tabulated to help Saltmeadow estimate the number of different individuals viewing each site. Saltmeadow absolutely does not and will not use IPs to identify any person or household.
  2. The summed frequencies of visits at various times during each day and week. These frequencies are not compiled in any way that would enable Saltmeadow to track individuals. They are tabulated solely to help Saltmeadow estimate and allow for peak bandwidth usage.
  3. The makes and versions of Internet browsers used by visitors placing orders via online forms. This information is used only to ensure that Saltmeadow sites are optimized for all popular makes and versions of browser and remain accessible to visitors with disabilities.
  4. The Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) of referring web sites. These Internet addresses are used solely to identify sites that are sending traffic to saltmeadow.com.

Saltmeadow sites may place coded markers, or "cookies," on visitors' browsers. This is done for two reasons: 1) to help make web pages more convenient for each visitor to read; and 2) to aid Saltmeadow in understanding site-usage patterns (cookies help differentiate between repeat and first-time visitors). The cookies do not reveal physical addresses, email addresses, names, telephone numbers, or any other indicators of visitors' personal identities. Saltmeadow does not use cookies to track visitors across domains.

Saltmeadow does not covertly capture from visitors' computer memory any information not specifically noted above.
