Planning and Zoning
Town Comprehensive Plan of Conservation and
Development:
After a two-year-long planning process, the Planning and Zoning
Commission adopted the latest ten-year update of the Branford Plan of
Conservation and Development [POCD] on November 20, 2008, with an
effective date of December 15, 2008. Developed with wide-ranging,
substantive input from Branford’s many standing boards and
commissions, the Branford Vision Committee, and the public at large,
the POCD identifies strategies for the future physical development of
the community. The Planning and Zoning Commission gratefully
acknowledges the breadth and depth of the many thoughtful
contributions to the planning effort.
Copies of the POCD are available for examination at the James
Blackstone Memorial Library, 758 Main Street, and at the
Willoughby Wallace
Memorial Library, 146 Thimble Islands Road, as well as at the
Planning and Zoning office in Town Hall.
A digital copy of the plan, in pdf format, is

Zoning
Regulations and Subdivision Regulations are the primary
implementation tools available to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Consequently, the Commission has begun the process of updating both
these sets of regulations over the next two years.

Studies
In March of 2006, the Planning and Zoning
Commission began the update of the Branford Plan of Conservation
and Development by initiating two transportation studies: the
“Town-wide
Transportation Study” and the “Town Center Parking
and Circulation Study.” Both studies were completed in
January, 2007.
Two other studies, the “Main Street (Route
146) Scenic Highway Gateway Study” and the “North
Main Street Access Management Study,” follow up on
recommendations of the “Town-wide Transportation
Study”. Both studies were completed June 30, 2008 and can
be viewed on the web site of the South Central Regional Council
of Governments at www.scrcog.org/toc.htm).
