Examples of Sky- and Neighbor-unfriendly Lighting

(Illustrations provided by Bob Crelin of www.TheGlareBuster.com)

The following images depict lighting fixtures that pollute the sky or neighboring properties with their wash. Such fixtures are not energy-efficient — much of the light they generate is projected away from the area they are intended to illuminate. In addition, they produce glare that may annoy neighbors and can make surveillance difficult for police and private security.

Drop-lens Canopy Fixtures

Unshielded Decorative-type Fixtures

Sag-lens & Exposed Light-source Fixtures

Floodlight Fixtures
(often used in uplighting)

Exposed Reflector Wallpack Fixtures (Scoop)
